Versioning

Today I will discuss about version management in SAP ABAP.
To ensure that different program versions can be clearly distinguished from one another in major development projects, and that the existing data and programs are always consistent, SAP uses two techniques
1) Versioning
2) Transport Management System

We have already discussed about Transport Management System in the previous post.

Now we will see what versioning is.

Imagine you have created a report program in a development project. You have transported your program to the Test system. The same report is also copied to Production system after performing quality tests.

1) Go to SE38, enter the report name and choose display.

2) Now you are in the report program. Go to utilities -> versions -> version management

3) In this screen you will find versions of the report program.
